Wild And Free

We were once wild. The grass and the sky belonged to the earth, and boundaries were not heard of. That was, until a peculiar looking creature came. They were to become known as man. Our worst enemy. Still, some were kind, and others, harsh. The good ones took our side, and took care of us and fed us. The bad ones...well...

They capture us, and break our spirit. They train us and put this disgusting metal bar in our mouth. They put a black, heavy pad on our backs, and they climb aboard us. They fix us with ropes, but they're odd ropes. They smell odd, and taste odd, too. It had a weird color, almost a burnt scarlet. Anyway, they would throw things at us, and burn our sides with hot fire, with an imprint.

Ash snorted and reared, the light drizzle of rain splashing on her coat.

Bolt trotted along the side of the forest, not minding the rain. It soothed his muscles, and as he drank from the puddle, he felt refreshed. He let out a whinny, before cantering away, back to his territory near the lake.

Mist pricked her ears and quivere with slight terror at the noise of a stallion way off. She was probably on his territory. Quickening her pace, she raced away from the lake.

As Mist trotted away from the lake, Ash trotted towards it. She dipped her muzzle into the water and then lifted it, looking around her.

Mist passed a calm looking horse along her way along, but she didn't bother to pause to warn the mare. Maybe the mare was par tof his herd?

Bolt pricked his ears, and thought he heard another horse. He found himself watching the lake in a moment, and scanned the are. There: a red mare. Rearing and coming down with a thud!, Bolt trotted over to the mare. "Why do you come into this territory?" He asked, not meanly, but not in the nicest of ways, either.

"I don't see your name on, do I?" She asked calmly, driving her hoof into the dirt. She eyed him carefully.

"Don't be foolish," Bolt snorted. "I've owned this land for many years by now! My own father owned this land." He glanced around proudly. "But," he went on, sighing, "I guess you are welcome to stay."

Hallie walked out of her western styled house, and over to the corral. "Woah, Phantom," she whispered. "Calm down, boy." She then tore her glance from the magnificent white stallion to her mare. "Why can't you be just as well as Star?"

"As long as you don't find harm to my territory. Or invite your little friends," Bolt added. "Other than that, you can stay as long as you'd like."

"Trust me, I don't have any." She said, backing up slightly, turning around, and cantering towards the ranch/house.

Bolt sighed. "Where might you be going?" He asked after the mare, not expecting a reply.

"Sorry, I don't have an answer." She called back to him as she quickened her pace to a smooth, flat canter.

"What do you mean? You're saying that...you're going nowhere?" Bolt trotted beside her, and glanced over at the blood-red mare. "What might be your name? Mine's Bolt."

"Ash's Rain." She said, bowing lightly. Her tail flicked as she slowed faintly. "And I mean, I can't tell you." She thought for a moment. "Well, I can, but that wouldn't be good." The ranch showed in the distance. "I'm going there." She said, nodding towards it.

"A...ranch? What are you doing there? Don't tell me those people have gotten you. They are horrid." Bolt shook his mane. "That is a nice name, bye the way," he added.

"Thank you." She said, a grin pulling on the side of her mouth. It quickly faded. "But, ew, no. Humans? Gross."

Bolt chuckled. "Then, may I ask, why exactly are are you here?"

"My mother's here." She said softly, looking towards the pastures.
